인류사회의 존속과 번영을 위하여 모든 세대는 그 다음 세대의 생존과 행복을 배려하여야 할 윤리적 책무를 집니다. 그러나 말은 쉽지만 눈앞의 이익 때문에 실천은 어렵고 미래세대의 행복은 언제나 후 순위로 밀리기 쉽습니다.
For the survival and prosperity of human society, every generation has an ethical responsibility to consider the survival and happiness of the next generation. This is easy to say but difficult to put to practice because of the immediate profits in front of us, and the happiness of future generations is always easy to be pushed off from priority.
자연환경국민신탁은 이 땅에 태어날 미래세대를 위한 대한민국 국민의 선택입니다. 영국은 이미 1세기 전, 우리가 일제의 식민정책에 시달릴 때 자연신탁법을 제정하여 미래를 위한 공동의 재산을 확보하기 시작하였습니다. 우리나라는 지난 100년 동안 식민통치와 한국전쟁 그리고 산업화를 거치면서 공동체 정신과 이를 뒷받침하는 공유재산들이 사유화되거나 흩어졌습니다. 개발에 의한 공동체들의 파괴는 도처에 지금도 진행 중입니다.
National Nature Trust is the Korean people's choice for future generations to be born on this land. In the UK, a century ago, when we were under Japanese colonial rule, the Natural Trust Act was enacted to secure common property for the future. Korea has been privatized or scattered over the last 100 years through colonial rule, the Korean War and industrialization. The destruction of communities by development can still be seen everywhere.
한반도를 남북으로 종단하여 물길을 내려는 사람들도 있고 개발제한구역과 수변구역을 콘크리트로 뒤덮은 세력들도 있습니다. 이분들은 “지속 가능한 발전”을 외치지만 행동으로는 현재세대의 이익을 앞세워 미래세대의 몫을 침해합니다. 시대는 빠르게 변하고 있습니다. 토목과 건축만이 성장의 유일한 원동력은 아닙니다. 우리가 미래세대를 염려하고 환경을 보전한다고 하여 경제성장에 역행하지는 아니합니다. 환경도 지키고 돈도 버는 길들도 많습니다. 자연과 환경은 새로운 국부의 원천입니다.
There are people who stop by the north and south for intercontinental waterways, and others who cover the development restricted area and the waterside area with concrete. They shout "Sustainable development", but they act in the interests of the present generation and violate the share of future generations. The age is changing rapidly. Civil engineering and architecture alone are not the only driving force for growth. We are not concerned with the growth of our economy because we care about future generations and preserve the environment. There are many ways to protect the environment and make money. Nature and the environment are the sources of new local wealth.
자연환경국민신탁은 분단의 상징이었던 비무장지대(DMZ)를 유엔 및 북한의 동의를 얻어 인류 공동의 재산으로 만들고 화해와 상생의 터전으로 가꿀 수 있는 거대구상을 가지고 있습니다. 정부 모델과 협력하여 백두대간을 경제통로가 아닌 생태통로로 바꿀 방안도 세우고 있습니다. 우리는 이러한 구상에 반신반의하는 분들에게 분명한 가능성과 방법을 제시하고자 합니다. 전통 한국사회의 마을재산이나 마을숲 등은 자연환경국민신탁의 원형입니다.마을 단위에 머물렀던 공동체 모델들을 전국화시키고 네트워크를 만들어 보전과 개발의 딜레마를 극복하고자 합니다.
National Nature Trust has a great idea to make the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), which is a symbol of division, a common property of mankind with the consent of the United Nations and North Korea, and to become a place of reconciliation and win-win. In cooperation with the government model, Baekdudaegan is being transformed into an ecological pathway, not a road to economy. We want to present clear possibilities and methods to those who are dubious in these ideas. The village property of the traditional Korean society and the village forest are the prototype of the National Nature Trust. We want to nationwide the community models that stayed in the village unit and make a network to overcome the dilemma of conservation and development.
